NAPCED — New Applications of Critical Pedagogy to Digital Education in Literary and Audiovisual Cultures
The Consolidated Teaching Innovation Group NAPCED: Applying Critical Pedagogy to Digital Education in Literary and Audiovisual Cultures (Ref. GCID23_2580121) combines the work of eight lecturers from the English Studies and Audiovisual Communication Degrees of the Universitat de València. One of its main objectives is to promote interdepartmental collaboration in teaching and the design of pedagogical materials, projects, and activities that encourage the development and expression of critical thinking in our students, both in their first and second languages. Through active learning methodologies, we design multimodal learning materials that strengthen our students’ creativity, autonomy, professionalization, and knowledge dissemination in virtual environments. Our team members have participated in 7 educational innovation projects funded by the University’s Staff Development and Educational Innovation Service, to date (you can access our previous projects by referring to the “History of the Group” section). In addition, the group maintains close ties with the LENA Research Group (North American Ethnic Minority Literatures in a Global Context) of the Universitat de València, especially through its permanent research seminar, the LENA Research Seminar Series, through which we organize lectures and research activities (https//www.uv.es/lenaval).
Our educational innovation project applies parameters, concepts, and methodologies for the development of the study of literature in digital and performative environments considered within the transversal paradigm of Education 4.0 (Hussin 2018). Key concepts such as digitization, personalized training, collaborative learning through projects, or multiple literacies support it (Mazzara, 2011-12; Cope and Kalantzis 2015; Basabara, 2016; Tabernero 2016 and 2013; Lázaro, 2020). During the academic years 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024, this project aimed at the study and possible applications of cyber-literary genres or digital literary genres in higher education, approached from the general framework of critical pedagogy. To this end, we have developed an already well-established interdepartmental collaboration between faculty members, and students from both degrees who serve as peer mentors.
